Description: Beit Mery, which is about a halfhour's drive east from the center of Beirut, has ancient Roman and Byzantine ruins, including temples and a theater, in addition to more contemporary delights such as restaurants, bars, and the Hotel Al-Bustan, set amidst a pine grove and offering a sweeping view of Beirut and the Mediterranean.M
Not far from the center of town lies the Monastery of St. John the Baptist (Deir al Qalaa) built in 1750 and reconstructed many times since, most recently in the early 20th century.
