Description: The most glorious site in the Bekaa Valley is undoubtedly Baalbeck. Named after Baal, a revered Phoenician god, the world-renowned archaeological site is nestled in a plain between the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountain ranges.

The Acropolis of Baalbeck is among the largest and best preserved corpus of Roman architecture in the world, with temples built in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD and dedicated to Jupiter, Venus, and Bacchus. The Bacchus temple, larger than the Parthenon in Athens and believed to have been completed around AD 150, is the most intricately decorated Roman temple in the world. The Victorian Hotel Palmyra nearby is 120 years old and has welcomed such great historical figures as Charles de Gaulle.
