Description: At the northernmost tip of Lebanon lies the Akkar region, whose terrain sharply contrasts with the rest of the north’,s soaring mountains.
Noteworthy sites in Akkar include the Tell of Arqa, which was mentioned in the Assyrian Annals in the Bible and in the Egyptian Annals during the 14th century BC.
Excavations since 1970 have uncovered remnants from the Bronze Age all the way up to the Mameluke era.
Jabal Qammouah, also in Akkar, is a small paradise of lush pine tree forests and flowing rivers. A small chapel lying just outside the village was recently restored with the remains of an ancient Roman temple.
