Description: The village of Bsharre, at the edge of the Kadisha Valley, is the birthplace of philosopher and poet Khalil Gibran, author of "The Prophet." After his death in the United States in 1931, Gibran’,,s remains were shipped to Bsharre and now lie in a locked casket inside the Bsharre Museum. This small museum, housed inside the St. Sarkis monastery, contains hundreds of Gibran’,,s paintings, drawings, and watercolors. His casket lies in the former chapel, along with his bed and an Armenian tapestry of Jesus Christ. Bsharre is also famous for its 10 waterfalls, including Al Banat waterfall (the waterfall of the virgins), where young women are said to have bathed in ancient times for ritualistic purposes.
