Lebanon’s largest hospitality and food exhibition, HORECA 2012, closes its doors again confirming “Beirut Capital of Taste”


The eagerly anticipated hospitality and food service event show had been under the Patronage of His Excellency Mr. Fady Abboud, Lebanon’s Minister of Tourism.

The largest and best attended exhibition, HORECA 2012 is a magnet for both Lebanon and the region’s hospitality industry played an important role in boosting the country’s economy. 

For the first time, Italy was formally involved in HORECA 2012 as the “Country of Honor”. Fifteen Italian companies grouped to promote their expertise in the field of equipment, food, wines and spirits, products, materials and hospitality management services.

The four-day event attracted a staggering 12,000 visitors from various industry fields across the region. They visited an extensive variety of exhibitors and attended an exceptional array of more than 9 daily activities that included a series of competitions and live shows, in which more than 400 participants from a multitude of establishments showcased their skills over.

Event Results at HORECA

Beverage & Wine Lab Wine lovers and connoisseurs had the opportunity to sample local and regional production of wine and spirits. From wine, to arak passing by beer and non-alcoholic drinks such as soft drinks, mineral water and juices, the Wine and Beverage Lab quenched every beverage enthusiast thirst.

The Lab, hosted by wine specialist Mr. Najib Moutran, offered a series of workshops on wine and arak production, as well as samplings of the latest releases and blind tastings. Industry experts offered master classes and short workshops on wine, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages. The 7th National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contest A panel of Lebanese and international experts compared local Extra Virgin Olive Oil from all parts of the country in a series of tasting sessions to award the best small producer, the best label and the best bottle.

The event included a series of explanatory sessions highlighting not only the history and heritage of the olive oil production but the latest developments of the industry as well.

The best Extra Virgin Olive Oil was designated during live voting sessions by the press, as well as Lebanese and international chefs. Winners were revealed during an Award Ceremony, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Hussein Hajj Hassan, Lebanon’s Minister of Agriculture on March 23. Click here for jury panel and results

Hospitality Salon Culinaire With over 200 chefs from well-known establishments competing in more than 15 categories, the Hospitality Salon Culinaire covered the next stars of the culinary world as participants spiced up their talent and offered their gastronomic tour de force to please the palates and eyes of an international panel of judges. For industry professionals, the competition provided insight on which talented chef to keep an eye out for. Click here for jury panel and results

The Annual Hospitality Forum a series of workshops took place alongside Horeca covering several topics on the latest consumer and product trends influencing the industry.  The most highlighted:

The Int'l Food Safety Seminar by The Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Lebanon (FCCIAL) held on March 22 moderated by the President Mr. Mohamad Choucair, Dr. Bassam Frenn Director General of the Industrial Research Institute and Mrs. Madiha Raslan Vice-President of the Lebanese Franchise Association replace the president of the LFA Mr. Charles Arbid.

The National Food Industry Day by the Syndicate of Lebanese Food Industries in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Trade and United Agency for International Development – UNIDO held on March 23 with the presence of the three ministers; Mr. Nicolas Nahhas Minister of Economy and Trade, Mr. Vrej Sabounjian Minister of Industry and Mr. Hussein Hajj Hassan Minister of Agriculture
